Psychological assessments use a range of scientifically devised tests and procedures to help understand a person’s strengths and weaknesses, pinpoint potential issues, and provide recommendations for treatment or remediation. The end goal of an assessment is to provide insight into strengths and weaknesses, understand if the person meets criteria for a diagnosis, and figure out what may help the individual based on the data.
Cambridge Lane Psychology Group offers a wide range of assessments, and can create customized assessments based on you or your child's needs, and the information desired.
Some of our most common types of assessment we conduct include:
Following a phone call or email requesting information on our assessment services, our Director of Assessment Services will call back (typically in 24-48 hours). During this 15 minute phone call, additional information will be obtained to best understand your assessment needs.
Based on the type of assessment you are looking for, along with the information obtained during the initial phone call, a preliminary decision will be made on what the assessment will include. This can always be changed, however it will be helpful in understanding the estimated time for testing and total cost.
Our assessment process begins with a phone call. We will reach back out and discuss your current concerns and type of testing requested. We will provide information regarding the timeline to begin and the cost of the requested testing.
The testing process includes four steps:
1. The intake: This is a one-hour long appointment where the clinician will ask about the presenting concerns and all relevant background information.
2. The testing: The types of assessments and length of time will vary based on the referral question. This information will be provided during your phone consultation and by your clinician following the intake. The testing occurs in person, and is comprised of using standardized measures to look at the specific area in question. Additionally, rating scales get emailed with consent. For children and adolescents, rating scales go to parents and teachers. For adults, rating scales may go to a partner or spouse.
3. Scoring and Report Writing: The clinician will spend time scoring all tests and rating scales, and then put them into a written report. The report includes the background information from the intake, all scores and interpretation of the scores, a summary and conclusion based on all data, if there is a diagnosis or not, and customized recommendations based on the data.
4. Feedback Session: The final one-hour long session is to meet with the clinician to review the data and results.
The time from intake through feedback session varies, but typically falls around 3-4 weeks.
Our office does not take insurance. Therefore, all assessment services require direct out-of-pocket payment. The total cost is dependent on the type of assessment and will be quoted following the phone consultation.
However, at the completion of the assessment process, we will provide a receipt showing your payments with the CPT codes and any diagnosis codes which will allow you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Our clinicians would be considered out-of-network providers.
Pennsylvania works hard to ensure the safety and care of consumers of mental health services. As part of those efforts, providers are required to present a good faith estimate upon request or upon scheduling a service. At Cambridge Lane Psychology Group, we will ensure that you will always know the cost associated with a service before any appointments are scheduled. This includes the estimated cost for the type of testing requested. We will also provide an explanation of any additional costs, should the testing battery change.
For additional questions regarding psychological assessments, please call the office and we will be happy to provide any answers.
